About Me.Hi, I'm Alex!
I am a Toronto based painter and artist. I believe that painting is a way of telling a story, of capturing a moment in time and conveying a feeling or emotion. My work is inspired by the beauty and simplicity of everyday life. I am drawn to objects, landscapes, and people that evoke a sense of nostalgia, that capture a fleeting moment of emotion or feeling. My painting style is clean and illustrative, with a focus on capturing the light and mood of a scene. In my work, I strive to find a balance between clean lines and expressive painting, between likeness and a painterly quality that adds depth and texture to the piece. I am influenced by the great illustrators of the past, as well as contemporary painters who have a strong sense of design and composition. I believe that a painting should be both visually striking and emotionally resonant, and I strive to achieve that balance in my work. Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create work that evokes a sense of calm and serenity, that captures the beauty and simplicity of life in all its forms. I want my paintings to transport the viewer to a different time and place, to inspire a sense of wonder and appreciation for the world around us. I am inspired by my travels around the world and the beautiful Canadian landscapes I call home. My paintings are often of places I have been to while traveling or simply going for a walk in the city. I also often like to do fun still-life paintings of objects that capture my attention as well, inspiration is everywhere! I often carry a camera or my painting sketchbook with me to document places or things that capture my interest and then use these references for larger paintings. I simplify objects in each piece to allow for stronger expression of colour and form. My paintings typically start with base colours values, and shapes to capture the focus and feeling I want to convey about the object or place, and then build from there. Through my art I want to capture the feeling of the moment, the vibrancy, and express the beauty in everyday places and things. |
